  • Sunchang lies along the Noryeong Mountains in the middle of the southern region of Jeollabuk-Do. Most areas are mountainous with the mountains stretching like a wall to the west and north presenting a superb view. Rivers large and small, including Seomjin River, Jeokseong River and Gyeong-Cheon (stream), run on the south and east. All rivers have clean, pure water as running from the west to the east. Fertile farmlands produce abundant harvests unharmed by drought.

It is approximately 60.6km from Sunchang to Jeongju where the provincial government is located, 39km to Gwangju metropolitan city and 28km to Namwon. The administrative region is Jeonju but the major residential areas are divided into Gwangju, Namwon and Jeongeup.

Sunchang has an optimum environment as a comprehensive recreation site, with clean, pure water running in every valley, magnificent mountains and fields reminiscent of landscape paintings.
